"I know that you are all waiting for the new M5," explains BMW M chief Dr Kay Segler.

Yes, Herr Segler, we are waiting feverishly.

In a bid to stoke our fizz levels to ‘giddy', the Bee-Em chief has released a small teaser of the new M5 as it learns how to walk, run and, erm, slide while wearing its suit of camouflage.

The good doctor tells us the M5 is a "bold business car" which at the push of a button turns into a sports car. No more details have been released, but rumours are of a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 - as in the X5 and X6 M models - producing upwards of 550bhp.

You can probably guess the 0-62mph times and top speed and lateral g forces and wig-splitting torque figures and such, but be sure of one thing: it had better be ruddy good.

The last M5 was a cracker; the one before it just as so, and before that, and before that...

Watch the video and tell us you're not excited.
