Video: Veyron SS hits 396kph on road

Sun Valley Road Rally lets 1200bhp SuperVeyron off the leash. Sounds like a JET

The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport can officially hit 430kph. Or in fact, 431.16kph, which is did a few years back at Volkswagen's Ehra-Lessien proving ground. That's really, really, indecently quick.

So this latest video seems a bit...pedestrian by comparison. It's footage of a one-of-one Veyron Super Sport ‘Pur Blanc' hitting ‘just' 396kph on a closed road at the Sun Valley Road Rally.

While it set a new course record at the Rally, it's not even as quick as TG's own Captain Slow, who (briefly) held a record when he blasted to 407kph in a Veyron way back in Series 9.

Still, it's proof that the Veyron will continue to boggle the senses. And let's not forget, 396kph from a 1200bhp, 8.0-litre, 16-cylinder quad-turbo engine with technology pinched from a nearby galaxy is still impressive to watch. It also sounds like a bloody jet engine too.

What's next for the Bugatti story then? Only Bugatti knows, but as we told you last week, we'll see the next chapter in 2016. And it will be incredible.
