VW launches the Cross Polo
Fancy a Polo with roof rails and some plastic cladding? This is IT
Let's cut to the chase - this is the new Volkswagen Cross Polo, and as you can see, it is a Polo that packs some extra brawn to go along with the brains. It gets new 'Cross' front and rear bumpers, a single-slat grille, black plastic cladding, silver ORVMs and roof rails, titanium black 'Livon' upholstery and new alloys. The bodykit adds a few millimetres to the standard car's length, width and height, makes the car heavier by 10kg, and that's about it.
It is the same car mechanically - ground clearance stays identical to the standard Polo at 168mm - and it is only available in top-of-the-line Highline trim with the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder diesel motor that puts out 74bhp and 180Nm of torque, and a five-speed manual gearbox. Equipment levels too are similar to that of the Polo Highline, which means the Cross Polo only looks different, the rest of the package is much the same.
The Cross Polo costs Rs 7.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is easily over Rs 70,000 more than a similarly-specced Polo TDI Highline. Would you spend that much cash on a Polo trying really hard to be a crossover? The Polo GT TSI costs Rs 7.99 lakh ex-Delhi, and that's not such a bad alternative...
