Karun Chandhok and Bruno Senna are Mahindra Racing's Formula E drivers

It was just a rumour floating around since last week, but Mahindra Racing confirmed it today: Karun Chandhok and Bruno Senna will be driving for the team in the upcoming FIA Formula E championship, the world's first all-electric racing series.

It's not an unlikely pairing, this. Karun and Bruno have known each other for a very long time, having competed against each other across different racing series, and having debuted in F1 as teammates at HRT in 2010.

Team principal Dilbagh Gill stated that the team has made considerable progress since the day it first revealed its Formula E car, having received its first car on May 15, which was then stripped down for the mechanics to pore over each and every single component, and chalk out the necessary tweaks.

Neither Karun, nor Bruno has had a go in the electric-only Spark-Renault SRT_01E yet, but they don't have to wait too long, with the first shakedown tests scheduled for next week at Donington Park in Britain.

With Mahindra revealing its driver line-up, that now makes it three teams who have announced their drivers - the other two being Audi Sport ABT (Lucas di Grassi, Daniel Abt) and Virgin Racing (Jaime Alguesuari, Sam Bird).

Just to give you a little recap, all ten teams will be running almost identical cars, with precious little room for technical changes. So that's a Dallara chassis, McLaren electrical systems, and Williams battery power to the tune of 268bhp being thrown around street circuits across the globe.

The first race is still a few months away, but in the meantime, you can read more about the world's newest, greenest single-seater racing series here.
