If their recent launch of eight new cameras in the Indian market, the Olympus SH-50 was the one that really got our attention. It wasn’t just that it had a 16 megapixel resolution and 24X optical zoom, but also because it had an interesting high-framerate video mode at 240fps.

The camera is packed with a number of great features like a touchscreen display, a good number of shooting modes, including a manual mode. There is also a myriad filters that take up the responsibility of post-processing your pics with an applied filter.

The SH-50 boasts an interesting 5-axis image stabilisation option while shooting video, which works incredibly well. Moreover, the 240 fps shooting allowed us to slow down the video in post and add some stylised slo-mo elements.

The picture quality itself is great on lower ISO settings, although the colours seemed slightly saturated. But when using a high ISO, which is essential for shooting in low-light, the results were not too impressive.

On paper, the SH-50 does have all the specs to be a great alternate camera for a prosumer photographer, but for all practical purposes, it’s better suited for casual photographers looking for that extra zing in camera functionality.
