Driving through Kerala: Day one
We take a trip along Kerala's coastline
We have taken the Mahindra XUV 500 through the roughest of terrains and pushed it to extents that no one in their right minds would. So this time we decided to take it easy with the Mahindra XUV 500, and take it along the Kerala coastline. But knowing us, and the XUV, there’s bound to be a hell of an adventure waiting.
After picking the XUV 500 from Mahindra’s Mangalore showroom, we have arrived at the Bekal fort in the Kasaragod district. It’s a huge structure spanning 40 acres. And you get the view of the nearby town and the adjoining beach from here. We will be going for a Theyyam dance performance at night. Will post from there.
Contrary to what we thought, Theyyam is not just a dance (like Kathakali). It’s an invocation of gods and a lot more hardcore than a mere performance. The person doing the dance is said to be possessed by the gods. Very intense.
The Theyyam performance is going on at full swing, and it seems it will go on for many more hours. Don’t know if we can stay awake that long, considering we have to drive again tomorrow. But looking at the fiery act, it’s a bit hard to take our eyes off.
