Better late than never

You might have wailed, you might have cribbed, you might have stomped your feet in disgust, and promptly went and got yourself another car only because the Maruti SX4 – which you might have liked – was only available as a revvy, generous petrol. If so, the fact that Maruti has just launched a diesel version of the car may not reduce your degree of disgust by any less. But hey, the SX4 is now available as a diesel. And the only bone we have to pick with this car is that it could have come way earlier.

But it’s here. And is pretty good. The kind of stuff the SX4 offered when it came in 2007 was so good and was at such a good price that Honda and Ford were forced to introduce features like airbags, which weren’t even an option till then. The diesel SX4 continues with the brilliance of being feature-packed along with being a competent, fun, car. With 90bhp and 200Nm of torque, you get proper in-gear performance you would appreciate in real-world roads, with real-world traffic. Not to mention, fuel-efficiency.

For now, you have what’s always been a good car, getting an enhancement it always deserved.
