Renault to launch Sunny, err... Scala
French car maker ready with its own sub-Rs 10-lakh car
Looks like Renault is going to finally fulfill its promise of launching five cars in India by 2013. After the Fluence, Koleos, Pulse and Duster, they are now looking at launching an all-new midsize car, christened Scala.
But before you Google the name for a picture of the car, it would only be fair to inform you that the Indian cars isn’t the same Scala sold in a couple of international markets like Egypt and Columbia. Hope they had changed the name too. Instead, it's pretty much the same car as the current Indian edition of the Nissan Sunny, with a lot of cosmetic changes to differentiate it from the Nissan. This will include a new front end, tail lamps and yes, chrome embellishments too.
Under the bonnet expect the same 1.5-litre diesel engine that powers the Sunny, alongside a five-speed manual but it's unclear if there will be a petrol variant at launch. Interiors will be slightly livelier than the Nissan’s with more creature comfort bits but don’t expect it to behave very differently from the Sunny. TopGear drives the new Scala this month.
