Renault India launches Scala
It's practically Nissan Sunny with sharper styling and Renault badges
Another day, another badge engineered car launch in the house of Renault-Nissan. Renault launched the Scala midsize sedan (essentially the Nissan Sunny with sharper styling) with prices starting at Rs 6.99 lakh(ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base petrol variant called the RXe.
Though this price is around Rs 1 lakh more than the base Sunny, Renault was quick to point out that the Scala is better equipped (think of it like this, Nissan has a LXi version while Renault starts at VXi). While the base diesel RxL starts at Rs 8.69 lakh, the top-end RxZ diesel costs Rs 9.57 lakh and the top-end petrol RxL costs Rs 7.86 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.
The Scala’s interiors are identical to the Sunny except for the Renault badges replacing Nissan. The exterior though looks a lot more charming with its bold and aggressive grille, large headlights and sharp-looking alloys.
Engine options for the Scala include a 1.5-litre dCi diesel motor and 1.5-litre petrol unit. The diesel model produces a decent 85bhp and 200Nm of torque, while the petrol generates 97bhp and 133Nm of torque. The company also plans to introduce a CVT-automatic gearbox in the near future.
