Luc Donckerwolke to head Bentley's design department
Succeeds Dirk van Braeckel as the new Director of Design at Bentley
13 - that is the number of years that Dirk van Braeckel has headed Bentley's design department for. He has, in his illustrious career, overseen projects like the Bentley Brooklands, Continental GT, Mulsanne and the opinion-dividing EXP 9 F SUV concept. Now however, Bentley have decided to replace him with Luc Donckerwolke, a man who has played a significant role in designing a number of Volkswagen Auto Group's models.
After heading Volkswagen's Advanced Design section for a while, Luc Donckerwolke has now been appointed as the Director of Design at Bentley Motors. Peruvian by descent, Luc started out as an exterior designer at Audi in 1992. Having worked for several brands under the Volkswagen family umbrella ever since, he is also responsible for designing cars like the Skoda Octavia and Fabia, Audi A2, A4 Avant and the R8 Le Mans racer, Seat Ibiza, Lamborghini's Diablo VT 6.0 and the widely revered Gallardo and Murcielago as well, both of which went on to win the "Red Dot" design award in 2003.
Walter de Silva, Head of Volkswagen Group design said, "Luc Donckerwolke brings a wealth of design talent to Bentley. His extensive experience makes him the ideal person to take forward Bentley’s future design language, at a time when the company has significant plans for new models. I would like to thank Dirk van Braeckel for the significant contribution he has made to Bentley. He has overseen the evolution of the Bentley brand and the development of the new generation Continental family and the flagship Mulsanne. I look forward to him joining the team at Volkswagen Group design.”
