Just in case you're tired of your Phantom, but would rather be dead than buy something new that’s not a Rolls, this one’s for you – The Phantom Series II.
This isn’t an all-new car as Herfried Hasenoehrl, General Manager, Emerging Markets for Rolls-Royce Asia rather emphatically puts it. “Our customers did not want anything to change in the Phantom. They just wanted it better,” he says. So the Series II gets minor upgrades like a redesigned media controller with a larger 8.8 inch screen, fully LED headlights with cornering and adaptive functions, cornering lights.
Mechanical changes are restricted to an all new eight-speed gearbox. What? Of course, it’s an automatic. It’s mated to the same 6.7-litre V12 developing 460bhp. Of course, Rolls-Royce will tell you their car makes adequate power. Because this engine can waft effortlessly with the 720Nm of torque at its disposal. CO2 emissions are down from 388 to 347 g/km. And Rolls-Royce claims a 10 percent improvement in fuel efficiency. And the suspension has been tweaked to be softer and increase the ‘waftability’ quotient.
Prices haven’t been revealed as Rolls-Royce claim the car can be customised to insane levels. But we reckon, starting prices for the Series II isn’t going to be below Rs 4 crore, ex-showroom, Mumbai. But again, if you have to ask, then this car isn’t for you. And yes, you can still hear the clock tick.
