Launched: New Volkswagen Touareg
After a lengthy delay, the all-new Touareg finally hits Indian shores
Volkswagen showcased the new Touareg at the Delhi Auto Expo in January earlier this year, and if you frequent TopGear.com on a daily basis, you will remember reading our review of the Touareg in February. However, months passed without any news of the Touareg's market launch.
Finally, after a prolonged wait, VW have launched the new Touareg in India. Noticeably longer and wider than before, the Touareg is also quite a fair bit lighter than its predecessor. The Touareg is only available with a diesel engine, a 3-litre V6 TDI at that. Mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission (no manual gearbox available) that sends drive to all four wheels, the engine produces 242bhp and 550Nm of torque. VW pegs ARAI-certified mileage for the Touareg at 12.08kpl.
On the outside, the new Touareg gets 18-inch alloys, a panoramic sunroof, roof rails and bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime-running-lights (DRLs). The interior, swathed in leather and wood inserts, houses a host of features like four-zone climate control, a six-CD changer with MP3 and MP4 compatibility, 14-way powered front seats with lumbar support. Also, the Touareg sports air suspension, park distance control, auto hold, cruise control. Safety is top-notch too, with inclusions like ABS, ASR, EDL, EDTC, ESP and airbags for the front as well as rear seat passengers.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Arvind Saxena, Managing Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars said, "The Touareg has been a well-accepted carline in India thanks to its agile performance and off-roading capabilities. The new generation makes no compromise towards this and our customers can look forward to an even more exciting experience."
With sales starting September-end, the new Touareg will be available as a CBU in seven different shades, and will cost Rs 58.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
