The only way to bring out more punch is by increasing displacement, right? Wrong. VW has brought out a proper hot hatch in the form of the Polo GT TSI, with lots of additional power to play with. And all that power is not thanks to a bigger mill under the hood. Instead, what VW has done is plonk a four-pot 1.2-litre petrol engine with a turbocharger. With that combination, the Polo GT TSI churns out 103bhp and 175Nm of pulling force.

The turbocharged engine is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch auto DSG gearbox. That’s the first time in India that we see a 7-speed auto ’box in any hatchback. As a result of this combo, the Polo feels quick, extremely quick, as we discovered during our review. But what's missing is paddle shifts behind that wheel.

In terms of features, you get auto air-con, double-DIN music system with USB, AUX and SD card input. You also get Bluetooth connectivity. It comes with parking sensors to help you park in tight parking slots. The seats are wrapped in ‘Milan’ fabric and the pedals have an aluminium finish.

The VW Polo GT TSI is pegged at Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). What, you thought all that tech was going to come cheap?
