Till today, if you wanted to buy a frugal Audi A4, you'd have to buy one with the 2-litre TDI mill that makes 138bhp, which is not exactly a figure that would excite you very much.

Now though, Audi has launched the A4 with the same 2-litre diesel motor, which, in this tune, makes 174bhp and 380Nm of torque. That's 36 horses and 60 torques more than what the meeker motor churned out. According to Audi, the 2.0 TDI-powered A4 will now crack the ton in 7.9 seconds.

All this new-found pace doesn't come at the cost of efficiency, though. Audi claims a 3 per cent increase in fuel efficiency, quoting a figure of 17.1kpl for the fettled new motor. More power bringing along more efficiency? We like.

Further more, this new A4 variant also gets Audi's Drive Select system, which lets the driver choose from the engine, steering and gearbox's many different moods - Comfort mode for when the car's tootling around town, Auto mode to leave the car to its own devices, Individual to customise all three to personal tastes and Dynamic to turn everything up to eleven.

This new A4 2.0 TDI has been priced at Rs 31.74 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). More power, more efficiency for a little more cash - how does that sound, people of TG.com?
