It was at EICMA 2016 -- which wasn't all that long ago -- that Honda pulled the pin. From behind the curtains emerged the new Fireblade. The sedate-by-superbike-standards looks may have disappointed some, but it didn't take much to register than Honda had really gone all out with this one. It is one of the most advanced 1,000cc motorcycles in existence today, and now, you can buy one in India.

But first, the headlines. At 196kg (kerb), the new Fireblade is lighter than its predecessor, and its 999cc inline-four whips up 189bhp (at 13,000rpm!) and 114Nm of torque. The figures aren't mind-numbing, but today's litre-classers have more to them than just their specifications. Honda has raided its MotoGP division's drawers and pulled out stuff such as a five-axis Inertia Measurement Unit, Selectable Torque Control (with built-in Wheelie and Rear Lift Control), Selectable Engine Brake, ABS, Riding Mode Select System, Power Selector, a colour TFT display and fully adjustable Showa suspension for its most potent track weapon.

Bookings are now open at select Honda 2 Wheelers dealerships in Mumbai and New Delhi. The base 'Blade is going for Rs 19.01 lakh, while the SP can be had for Rs 23.3 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). They're proper contenders, the 'Blades, but they now have a certain German entrant to contend with...
