Aishwarya Pissay en route to Baja Aragon 2018
She will be the first female racer from India to compete in Baja Aragon, racing with the Sherco TVS Rally Factory Team’s Dakar machine – RTR 450
For Indians, TVS’ contribution to the world of motorsports is quite admirable. In 2017 alone, the team won major accolades in different tournaments – it has won the Desert Storm Rally, finished 13th overall in Dakar, won the Pan Africa Rally, and so on. And now, it’s time to add another feather to its cap. TVS has announced that Aishwarya Pissay will be part of the four-member squad for the upcoming 2018 Baja Aragon. What makes the statement so special? Well, she’s the first Indian woman to compete in this competition.
B. Selvaraj, team manager, TVS Racing, said, “What makes this even more exciting is that this is a new team that we are fielding for the Rally and it will be interesting to see how the dynamics play out. Our technical team is also working around the clock on the performance of the bikes and I wish the team the very best for the Rally.”
With Aishwarya on-board, the squadron now has Spanish rider Lorenzo Santolino, Michael Metge and Adrien Metge. Scheduled for July 20, the Baja Aragon is known to be one of the most demanding races out there which will cover a distance of 827km. The 22-year-old Bengaluru based racer has won the Raid De Himalaya which was held last year. In the same year, she has also won the Dakshin Dare, Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) and TVS Apache Ladies One Make Championship.
Commenting on this, she said, “This will be my first international Rally and I am overwhelmed as well as grateful to TVS Racing for giving me this opportunity. The Baja Aragon is a good training ground for any racer who has their sights set on the Dakar, as it tests their mettle among the international talent.”
Spanish racer, Lorenzo Santolino, is the man with a lot of experience on his side – he has participated in OiLibya Morocco Rally and Desert Storm, he has also held a position in the World E1 Championship which was held in 2015 and he’s a seven-time Spanish champion in Enduro and XC. Tagging along are the French brother-duo, Adrien Metge and Michael Metge. While Adrien has been associated with TVS since 2016, Michael has joined the racing team recently.
