Hero is all set to start deliveries of its new premium bike, the Xtreme 200R. Priced at Rs 89,900 (ex-showroom), the Xtreme 200R will rival the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS and the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V. If you remember, Hero had launched a premium bike before (the Karizma ZMR) but it didn’t quite set the sales chart on fire. But with the Xtreme 200R, Hero is making quite a promising comeback in this segment. Why are we saying this? Well, we took the Xtreme 200R out for a spin at the Buddh International Circuit a few months back and we were mighty pleased with it.

The Xtreme 200R draws power from a 199.6cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled motor that produces 18bhp and 17.1Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox. Hero claims that the Xtreme 200R will hit the 60kph mark in 4.6s and is capable a top speed of 114kph.

The Xtreme 200R is equipped with a 276mm disc up front and a 220mm disc at the rear with ABS as standard. Yes, this motorcycle comes with ABS as standard. It uses a 37mm telescopic fork up front and a seven-step preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear.

At Rs 89,900, the Xtreme 200R undercuts the Apache RTR 200 4V by Rs 17,000 and the Pulsar NS 200 by Rs 21,000. This price tag of sub-one-lakh gives the 200R quite a lead over its rivals. Don’t you think?
