McLaren MP4-12C Spider teased
It’s coming: roofless 616bhp twin-turbo British supercar ready for the summer
In the next few days, you - the good folks of The Internet - will bear witness to the second instalment in the What Car Will McLaren Make Next saga.
Well today, we can tell you that car is... the McLaren MP4-12C Spider. That's correct, a convertible version of the McSupercar will arrive just in time to soak up the very best the British summertime can throw - and will likely throw - at it.
All we have is the teaser image above, but McLaren tells us the new Spider will use the recently announced version of its twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8 engine producing 616bhp, up from the 591bhp of the first iteration. In the coupe, that power - allied to a seven speed gearbox - can hit 0-100kph in 3.1 seconds.
Apparently the MP4-12C Spider uses the same ‘MonoCell' chassis as the coupe and thus promises similar dynamics. We'll get back to you on that once we've had a go.
Stay tuned...
