215bhp Ducati 1299 Superleggera in India

Italian superbikes are a special part of speed-focussed motoring and the Ducati 1299 Superleggera is special among the special ones. After all, only 500 units were commissioned and they're all sold out.

This paticular Ducati gets a 1285cc Superquadro L-twin cylinder engine, capable of 212bhp @11,000rpm and 146.5Nm of twist at 9,000 rpm. The 1299 Superleggera is the most powerful factory twin-cylinder ever built, and is the first production motorcycle to have a carbon fibre monocoque, single-sided swingarm, rear subframe, fairing and carbon fibre wheels with aluminium hubs. As the name suggests, this superbike is all about lightens and has a kerb weight of just 167kg. The engine is paired with a 6-speed Ducati Quick Shift gearbox and has a plethora of electronic wizardry to help put the power down to the asphalt. It has Ducati Traction Control Evo, Ducati Slide Control and even has launch control.

A superbike of such capability needs a lot of stopping power and this one has it all. The front brakes consist of two 330mm semi-floating discs, Brembo 4-piston callipers, adjustable-ratio front brake master cylinder and a remote lever adjuster. At the rear, there is a 245mm disc brake and on both ends it gets the Bosch Cornering ABS system.

One of the lucky 500 is Indian motorcycle enthusiast and loyal Ducati customer, Vikram Oberoi and he's just taken delivery of it. And he's got one with the complete Track kit which includes Ducati performance components like the complete titanium Akrapovi? racing exhaust, racing screen, plate holder removal kit and mirror replacement plugs. Good man. Wondering what kind of person gets to have a 1 in 500 Ducati superbike that costs Rs 1.12 crore (ex-Delhi)? It'd help to know that Vivek is a frequent at the BIC, and also has a Ducati 1299 Panigale S, a Ducati 916 and the Ducati 1098 in his garage. Some people get to have all the fun...
