Aravind KP to compete in 2019 Dakar rally

Few months back, at the PanAfrica rally, Aravind KP sustained a wrist injury, which caused him to back out at the last moment. Now though, he is all set to face to toughest rally raid in the world, Dakar. Sherco-TVS has announced that Aravind KP will join the Metge brothers and Lorenzo Santolino.

“Dakar is the ultimate challenge for any racer and I am glad to be a part of it for the third consecutive time. I thank TVS Racing and Sherco for believing in me and giving me another opportunity to fulfil my dream of finishing the rally. Conquering Dakar 2019 is my single focused goal, for now, and I am determined more than ever to finish the rally,” said Aravind.

After showing a robust performance at the Baja Aragon, PanAfrica rally and the Morocco rally, Sherco-TVS feels pretty confident about the 2019 edition of Dakar. “We are competing with four best riders in the team and are very confident of a top 10 finish,” says B Selvaraj, team manager, TVS.

The 41 edition of the rally is scheduled from January 6 to 17 and the riders will start from Lima and will cover a total distance of over 5000km. The riders will astride the RTR 450. And no, it’s not your regular RTR with a power boost and a jacked-up frame. The RTR 450 Rally is a different animal all set to conquer the unforgiving conditions that it will face at the Dakar rally. The 450cc motor is specially made for rally raids such as the Dakar. A 300m Brembo disc at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear take care of the braking duties. The RTR 450 features a WP telescopic fork at the front with 300mm of travel and a progressive shock at the rear with 330mm of travel.
