Launched: Audi RS5 at Rs 1.1 crore

Audi has launched its two-door performance coupe, the RS5 at Rs 1.1 crore (ex-showroom).

Design-wise, the new RS5 is one of the most aggressive looking Audis out there. The front of the car is dominated by the gigantic honeycomb grille and the restyled LED headlamps. The coupe sits on 19-inch alloy wheels (optional 20-inch alloy wheels are also available) and it gets 15.7-inch carbon ceramic brakes on the front wheels.

If you have been following our social media feed, you might know that we have already got our hands on the new RS5 and you can click here to know what the two-door coupe is like to drive. Under the hood, there’s a 2.9-litre, bi-turbo V6. Yes, you read that right. The new RS5 has fewer cylinders than the previous one. However, the power output remains the same as the V8 - 444bhp. While the power remains the same, the torque figure has increased to 600Nm – a hefty 171Nm more than the previous RS5. Audi’s Quattro system works in tandem with the 8-speed automatic gearbox to launch this car from 0-100kph in a claimed 3.9s. Mind you, that’s 1.7s faster than the last-gen RS5. Audi says that the RS5 is limited to 250kph.

The RS5 is equipped with ‘RS-fixed’ suspension as standard but there's also the option of the ‘dynamic’ package which has dynamic ride control.

On the inside, it gets all the usual creature comforts. There’s Audi’s ‘virtual cockpit’, three-zone automatic climate control, front massage seats with memory function, voice command, Bang and Olufsen sound system, among others. In terms of safety, the RS5 gets adaptive cruise control, vehicle exit assist, and also uses radar tech to scan the surroundings and warn you about traffic in your blind spot – given the chaotic driving we’re used to in our country, this bit of tech would sure come in handy. The German carmaker has also fitted the RS5 with Audi side assist, hill hold assist, park assist, head-up display and Audi pre sense.

The RS5 is available in seven paint schemes – grey, silver, red, black, blue, green and white and three interior leather options. The two-door coupe will go up against the BMW M4 and that fight is to watch out for.
