Mahindra names its new MPV as Marazzo

For anyone who's had a keen eye on automotive websites or their social media handles will know that there's a new MPV in the making from the house of Mahindra. It's been doing rounds of the expressway for months now, wearing a camouflage to ensure the shutterbugs don't get a glimpse of what the designers at Mahindra have been busy with.

To start with, the new MPV will be called Marazzo. Okay, we allow you a couple of minutes to fathom that fact. Phew. Now that you've settled down after reading that, here's what the name means: Shark, in Basque language.

To tell you more about the vehicle, this is based on the brand new platform and nothing from any of the older platforms has been carried forward. Thank God. It's one of the three platforms that Mahindra is currently working on. Apart from that, there's also a new diesel engine that'll power the Marazzo. It'll be capable of meeting the Bharat VI emission norms, but we don't know the power and torque ratings just yet. According to Mahindra, the Marazzo will have the best ride and handling as compared to all the other Mahindras ever made. Also what they hinted at was a quiet cabin, another Mahindra best.

For all of you who've been wondering if it'll replace the Xylo, it won't replace it for now and will be slotted over it for the timeline.

This is the first time that a carmaker has spoken about the size of the vehicle in sqft – Marazzo has a footprint of 47.5 sqft – and will be spacious enough for eight. And if you want a seven-seater, Mahindra will be happy to sell you that too, with captain seats in the middle row.

The Marazzo will be out in the market in September/October this year and we expect it to be priced at Rs 12-15 lakh (ex-showroom). Interested? Tell us in the comments below.
