Maruti Ciaz SHVS launched
Maruti Suzuki has launched its first-ever diesel hybrid sedan, the Ciaz SHVS, starting at Rs 8.23 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. The new tech allows the hybrid diesel Ciaz to stretch its legs to a little over 28km on a litre of fuel. Twenty-eight kilometres! And we thought Maruti’s 26.21kpl efficiency claim for the now discontinued diesel-powered Ciaz was too much to digest.
If you're wondering what SHVS stand for, it’s an acronym for Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki. This system includes an intelligent Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) that comes bundled with a first-in-class Start/Stop function, a brake energy recuperation kit and an engine power assist. Most of these functions aren’t new to India – Mahindra’s Micro-Hybrid system works along similar lines; while energy regeneration and power assist features have been a part of everyday premium cars for a long time.
All of this means the Ciaz SHVS now is the most efficient car in India, breaking its own previous record of a claimed 26.21kpl for the standard diesel car. Maruti is charging a tiny premium for its SHVS variants over the now discontinued diesel cars, starting at Rs 8.23 lakh for the base VDi variant, going up to Rs 10.17 lakh for the top-end ZDi+ trim.
