Your first look at the new BMW 8 Series
BMW teased the sketch earlier this month for the new 8 Series concept, a sleek two-door coupe. As revealed earlier, the brand has confirmed that the 8 will return to the market in 2018 and this concept previews the production model.
The sketch had us excited, and the image of the finished item here has not disappointed. The giant twin-kidney grille is flanked by mean-looking slender headlamps. It gets the customary concept details of massive alloys but this being BMW’s “true luxury coupe”, the production model's may not be much smaller and should sport those giant gold-finished brake callipers, too.
We still have to wait for one more day for the official unveil at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este to get the full details about the tech onboard, and more importantly, what kind of power will this beast be packing. Rumours suggest it will get a familiar family of engines, possibly from the 6 Series Gran Coupe line-up like the 4.4-litre V8 that makes 552bhp and 680Nm. A more exciting train of thought suggests the possibility of BMW offering the new 8 with a 6.6-litre V12 that develops 600bhp and 799Nm of torque. Fingers crossed.
