Review: Hyosung GT650R

The bike that you see here is the 2013 Hyosung GT650R. It’s not all-new, but it is a thoroughly reworked bike inside out. Upfront, it loses the twin air scoops on the fairing and now looks a lot leaner, while the rear remains the same. This reduction in size makes the over-sized fuel tank look even bigger.
Seat height and handlebar height remain the same. While this gives the GT650R a riding position that is perfect for the track and for open highway, it can be a nuisance in traffic.
The engine is the same as before, but it’s gone through some tweaking. The 647cc V-twin motor now makes 74bhp and 62Nm, routed out via a six-speed manual gearbox. The engine feels a lot more rev-happy than it did on the older bike.
Riding the GT650R fast was never an issue, but riding it slow still is. Now, if only the guys at Hyosung can shrink that fuel tank a bit and go easy on the riding position.
