Every few years Ford has been digging into their box of tricks and pulling out a special mid-size sedan, they managed it with the Ikon, then the Fiesta, which has now become the Classic and they’ve attempted to do so again with the brand new Fiesta. This one isn’t a hogwash with some new bits in an old car, the new Fiesta is a completely new car with all new bits in it. The styling has gone the modern cab forward, roomy interiors way and the cabin has been updated with all the latest gizmos that there are to offer.
The two new engines make more power and run leaner than the ones that have been on offer. The 1.5-litre petrol engine is rated for 109bhp and if your foot is made out of feathers you could manage a claimed 17kpl and although bottom end performance is sluggish, the snarly top end ensures you have something to look forward to. The diesel is also a 1.5-litre unit and makes the power we always clamoured for, a full 90bhp, but it hasn’t lost any bit of its frugal nature and is capable of 23.5kpl with incredibly linear
power delivery to make it very easy to use.
There is one thing that Ford has been generally good at, the driving experience. They’ve always been able to deliver great handling cars which have the ability to put a big smile on your face every time you get behind the wheel. Now, we haven’t had a chance to take the Fiesta for a proper drive yet, but things are looking promising from the first drive that we were allowed of the car.
So a more stylish looking car with better interior space, capable new engines and a host of clever interior features sure makes the Fiesta a worthy option. To add a bit more appeal, Ford also promises that this car will be one of the cheapest to run and maintain over the years. Till Ford decides to make prices for the new Fiesta public, we can only cross our fingers and hope that it will make it a winner.
