Passat
Additional Info
The Passat is a great car. It’s capable as hell, but it just lacks soul. It isn’t really exciting.
-
Comfort
The Passat is quite comfortable to be in. The ride is supple, still has a bit of European stiffness at low speeds, but is nice and cosseting. Legroom is adequate, but could feel cramped for taller than average people.
-
Performance
The diesel engine is nice. It may not be the most refined out there. But performs well when given the stick. 0-100kph comes up in 9.28 sec. The brilliant DSG box shifts very quickly and makes for an exciting drive.
-
Cool
The new Passat isn’t really imposing. It looks too plain and lacks the character of the older car. It can’t be cool until it becomes flamboyant which it isn’t.
-
Quality
Fit and finish is great and so is the build quality. Quality of materials used is top notch and you won’t find much reason to complain.
-
Handling
The Passat is a decent handler. It turns in well enough but does feel nose-heavy when pushed hard. The suspension is tuned more towards ride quality than for pure handling.
-
Practicality
The Passat is a car that provides you with a lot of kit. And some of it is very useful like the Park Assist that helps the Passat slide into parking slots without any steering input. Apart from this, there is adequate space for the passengers and the big boot makes the Passat a good option for going out of town.
-
Running costs
Being a diesel and one from VW, it is bound to be efficient. The Passat returns an overall fuel efficiency of 12.5kpl, which should make the accountant in you happy.
