Honda Amaze crosses 50,000 sales mark
Earlier this year, at the Auto Expo, Honda had showcased three models \– the all-new CR-V, the Amaze and the Civic. While the Japanese carmaker is yet to launch the Civic, it has already launched the new CR-V and the Amaze. Speaking of the Amaze, the compact sedan has proven to be a chartbuster for the carmaker. In just five months, Honda has already sold 50,000 units of the Amaze. This, by the way, makes it the quickest among Honda-badged cars to achieve such numbers. Speaking on the occasion, Makoto Hyoda, director, sales and marketing, Honda, said, \“Overall concept of the all-new Amaze was to develop a one-class-above sedan for Indian family use that exceeds the expectations of customers in the compact sedan segment. The response to the car with 50,000 sales in 5 months is overwhelming.\” The second-gen Amaze accounted for almost 50 per cent of Honda's total sales during April-September 2018. The manufacturer has also released some statistics about its India customer base and here's what it looks like\: 30 per cent of buyers are opting for the AMT variant, Tier-1 cities contribute to almost 40 per cent of the sales, while Tier-2 and Tier-3 sectors are each contributing around 30 per cent of sales. The new Amaze is bigger than its predecessor; at 3995mm, it is 5mm longer than before and at 1695mm, it is 15mm wider than before, even the wheelbase has gone up by 65mm. What this slight change in size has done is that it has increased the boot space by 20 litres. In terms of features, it is equipped with LED headlamps, cruise control, a 7-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and voice command system, among others. It gets two engine options \– a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel. The petrol unit produces 88bhp and 110Nm of torque and is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The oil-burner is available with two transmission options \– a five-speed manual and a CVT. While the diesel motor produces 98bhp in the manual variant, it churns out 78bhp in the CVT variant.
