Hero MotoSports to participate in Atacama Rally 2018
Hero MotoCorp is one of the biggest two-wheeler manufacturers out there; the bike manufacturer sold 679, 862 units in the month of July. So, when this two-wheeler giant is not busy churning out thousands of bikes from its assembly line every day, it ventures in to the world of motorsports. After competing in this year's Merzouga rally, Hero MotoSports is now all set to take part in the 2018 Atacama Rally.The event which is scheduled for August 12 will see Joaquim Rodrigues comeback in the world of rallying after his ill-fated crash at the 2018 Dakar. “I am glad to ride my bike again. I was with the team during the Merzouga Rally as a mentor and I missed racing on my bike the most. I have trained hard these past months and have made great progress. Atacama Rally is a learning ground for me personally and I am aiming to get back in form,' said Joaquim Rodrigues, rider, Hero MotoSports.Oriol Mena who showed quite a performance at the 2018 Dakar and the 2018 Merzouga rally will be seen riding along with Joaquim. After finishing in the top-15 at the Merzouga Rally and in the top-10 at this years Dakar, Mena will look to close the Atacama rally on a high note. “It has been a great start to the season. The top-15 finish at the Merzouga Rally, followed by an energetic training regime has lifted my energies for the next adventure at Atacama. I am hoping to carry the momentum forward and deliver a good performance for the team,' said Oriol Mena. The team's third rider, CS Santosh, will not participate at the 2018 Atacama Rally, as he is going to compete in this year's India Baja which will be held from August 17. The 2018 Atacama Rally will see the participation of all the top contenders of the Dakar, including most of the riders who finished in the top-15. And if riding along the top-class isn't challenging enough, then the venue sure is; spread over 1200km, the riders will face the toughest terrains that the city of Copiapo has to offer.
