Chevy showcases Beat Activ, Essentia and Spin at the Expo
Beat Activ concept
As the name suggests, GM plans to get on to the crossover bandwagon with the Beat Activ. Based on the current Beat hatchback, the Activ shares its styling cues with the rest of GM models. Seen here in concept form, expect the car to lose some of its motorshow sheen (big alloys, projector headlamps, and funky paintjob), whenever it hits the showrooms. The LED DRL headlights and LED tail lamps are here to stay, and give the Activ its funky appeal.
Joining the little crossover at the show is the sub four-meter notchback that will also be based on the Beat hatchback. From the front, it looks similar to the Active with more conventional looking headlight cluster. As with most sub 4-meter sedans, the rear looks like a quick fix job of adding a boot to a hatch. The interior of the Essentia is largely borrowed from the current generation Beat, and comes in dual tone beige finish.
Though GM did not talk about the engine options, we expect the notchback to be powered by the same 1.2 litre petrol and 1.0 liter diesel motor doing duties on the current beat. But expect a power bump for better drivability and refinement. GM plans to launch the Essentia notchback in 2017. Expect a production ready Beat Activ to be launched soon thereafter.
Chevrolet stepping into the Indian MPV segment with the Enjoy, but it was quickly bowled over by its superior rivals. But now, the company has now readied this – the Spin. And with this it hopes to make a better impact in this popular segment.
The Spin mini-MPV is based on GMs Gamma II platform that underpins the Beat hatch. The 1.2 petrol and 1.3 diesel engines, as seen in the Sail twins, will be doing pulling duties in here. Sure, that wont give the Spin a breath taking performance but thats not what an MPV is all about.
The boxy styling frees up good amount of space inside, something that large families will appreciate. But we suggest keeping third row seats reserved for kids. Just like the Essentia and the Beat Activ, the Spin is slated for launch in 2017.
