Ducati launches 959 Panigale*
This is a slightly unusual launch. Manufacturers usually build up to the main event by flooding their social media channels with teasers, officially launch the product and then announce the price.
The Ducati 959 Panigale will only be available for purchase from July this year, but we already have the price\: Rs 14.04 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
If you haven't been on the interweb or breathed in the last six months, allow us to fill you in. The 899 Panigale has been put to rest, and in its place has come the 959. What it is, is the 899's L-twin motor with a slightly longer stroke, which results in the addition of 56 cubes, taking displacement up to 955cc. Power is up by nine digits to 157 horsepower, and torque is rated at 107.4Nm. And, despite it being exactly 44cc short of being a proper litre-classer, Ducati calls this a 'supermid'.
There's a Showa Big Piston fork up front and a Sachs monoshock at the back. Pirelli's Diablo Rosso Corsa is the tyre of choice, and bringing them to a halt is a job assigned to Brembo brakes (twin discs up ahead, a single at the rear). Plus, it gets the whole Ducati electronics package\: traction control, ride-by-wire, riding modes, quickshifting and much, much more.
Oh, and it looks absolutely smashing.
So, would you have the big Panigale, or the small... er, nearly-as-big Panigale?
