DSK-Benelli launch on March 19
If you've been waiting for DSK-Benelli to unveil prices for its Tornado range of motorcycles at the ongoing India Bike Week 2015, then you are in for a disappointment. DSK Motowheels is still holding the cards close to its chest, and has only hinted at a 'competitive pricing strategy' when it finally launches five motorcycles on March 19, 2015.Getting these motorcycles to our shores via the CKD route has helped DSK trigger a price war in the premium motorcycle segment. And, taking charge of this assault will be the TNT 300 - an in-line, liquid-cooled, 300cc twin, 36bhp motorcycle that is pegged to be priced below Rs 3 lakh. The youngest star in the Benelli portfolio, the 300 has been designed keeping young riders in mind. This will be followed by a couple of 600cc motorcycles that bring along something that hasn't been a part of this segment before - a four-pot motor. The TNT 600i and the GT will represent the Italian brand in the middleweight street-fighter and tourer categories, with an excellent mechanical package, and loads of agility and comfort. We expect these two 600s to retail at Rs 5.5 - 6.2 lakh. Then there are two high-voltage three-pot motors that displace 898cc and 1131cc in the TNT 899 and TNT 1130, respectively. With their radical and edgy styling, these two motorcycles promise to be attention magnets the moment they step out in the open. With power figures standing at 120bhp and 158bhp, these could give their competitors sleepless nights when they are launched at an expected price of Rs 8.5 lakh for the 899 and Rs 13 lakh for the 1130.This attractive model range is expected to form a strong platform for the forthcoming models that will be a mix of budget and high-end motorcycles. The recently-showcased (at EICMA 2014) single-cylinder, 250cc street-fighter and its sister brand's Keeway Blackster cruiser (V-twin, 250cc) will be the company's most affordable models when they make it to India by the second half of 2015. And, keeping the DSK team busy will then be an adventure-bike, called the TREK 1130 Amazonas, that will be launched around the same time. Not being content by an eight-model plan for its first two phases, DSK-Benelli will storm the market with the launch of three brand-new budget motorcycles in the 200-500cc range that should most likely ensure Benelli ends 2015 on a high. As for now, the only thing we can do is wait for the bikes to make it to the showrooms with price tags that show competitors how things are done. Till then, it's fingers crossed.
