Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza wins ICOTY and TVS Apache 200 wins IMOTY
In its 12th edition, the Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) and the 10th Indian Motorcycle of the Year (IMOTY) awards were held in Mumbai on December 20, 2016. Of the 19 new cars and 12 new two-wheelers launched in 2016 which qualified for these awards, there was room for just one winner from each.In a tough contest, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza clinched the winner's title of the ICOTY'17. The Hyundai Tuscon was the runner-up, with the Toyota Innova Crysta clinching the third spot. That's the second year in a row that an SUV type car has won the title. The Brezza, Maruti Suzuki's first compact SUV, was almost entirely designed and developed in India by the Chief Engineer for the Vitara Brezza Project C.V. Raman and his team. Accepting the award, Mr Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director \& CEO Maruti Suzuki, said 'this award is as much a recognition of our hard work as it is of immense support and love shown by our customers'.The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V beat the competition to win the title of IMOTY'17 for its outstanding performance, style and value for money. The award was accepted by Mr Arun Siddharth, VP Marketing, who stated\: 'the success of the bike could not have been determined without customers buying it'. The runner-ups for the IMOTY'17 were the Kawasaki Versys 650 and Royal Enfield Himalayan.The jury of ICOTY and IMOTY constitutes of representatives from leading automobile magazines in India, experts who have extensive experience in vehicle testing and are well versed with the workings of cars and motorcycles.The ICOTY and IMOTY have emerged as the most credible and coveted auto awards and are now considered the Oscar of Indian automotive awards. It is the result of an expert and independent judgment of the best new car and motorcycle and the award has been getting increasingly prominent with each passing year.
