New Honda WR-V set for March 16 launch
Honda has confirmed the details of its newest offering, the WR-V, to be launched later this month. Based on the current-gen Jazz, Honda's WR-V has joined the sub-four-metre crossover-esque hatchback party, albeit a bit late. But information suggests that it hasn't wasted all that time waiting, instead, it's been improving the build of the new car and dodging the pitfalls faced by the competition. The buff-looking hatchback has two trusty Honda engines on offer, the 1.2-litre petrol unit that makes 89bhp and 110Nm, and the 1.5-litre diesel which has an output of 99bhp and 200Nm. Honda says there will be no automatic on offer as yet, and pairs a five-speed manual box with the petrol engine and a six-speed with the diesel. Both engines come with impressive fuel efficiency claims, with 17.5kpl on petrol and 25.5kpl on diesel. The WR-V weighs heavier than the Jazz and Honda explains that it's due to the bigger 16-inch tyres, sturdier suspension and the strengthened body. It also gets a sunroof, a first in its segment, a feature that Honda may be betting on to lure customers from its rivals. Other features would include the new Digipad infotainment system, same as the new City (full review here). The diesel variants are to get cruise control function as well, making it a good choice for highway drives.Safety features are likely to include ABS and two airbags as standard. We expect the WR-V to be priced above the Jazz with a starting price of Rs 6.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). More details along with our first drive story coming soon, so stay tuned.
