Launched: Ducati XDiavel and XDiavel S
For the last couple of months, Ducati has been on a roll in India. First, it launched a track tool that is the Panigale 959, then a couple of variants of its sport-touring super computer, also known as the Multistrada 1200, and now this, the XDiavel – an even more badass-looking iteration of its sinister power cruiser, the Diavel.
According to Ducati, the X in the XDiavel is meant to represent the meeting of two worlds - cruiser and performance bikes. And it certainly looks the former – from those long, chopper-like front forks, past the contoured tank right down to the fat rear tyre that enhances its muscular appearance.
The X boasts a wheelbase that's been stretched by 33mm over the standard Diavel and a lowered saddle height. The standard X model trades Ducatis traditional red paint for matte black, while the XDiavel S gets gloss paint and additional machine-finish on the engine covers and wheels.
The engine has been redesigned with the liquid-cooled desmodromic L-twin being an enlarged version of the existing unit on the Diavel. The max output of the X's 1,262cc motor is 156bhp, which is around 6bhp down on the standard motorcycle, and 129Nm of twist, with torque having substantially increased between 3,500 to 5,000rpm.
Everything from the design to the ergonomics is new. Both versions of the XDiavel get three position front footpegs and pillion seat as standard. As soon as you fire the engine up and twist the throttle, all notions of this motorcycle being a laid-back cruiser end. Armed with DVT tech, the motor has been tuned for low-end performance while providing efficient combustion over a broad rev band.
Ducati have given the X a healthy list of features like riding modes, ABS, traction control, cornering ABS from the Multistrada, keyless ignition, cruise control and the disc brake setup of the 1299 to provide high performance braking ability. The X is one low-slung cruiser, and just like on the regular Diavel, you'll have to reach over the long curvaceous tank to meet the one piece handlebar, while placing your feet on the forward-set foot pegs.
The Ducati XDiavel can be had for Rs 15.87 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), while the XDiavel S is priced at Rs 18.47 lakh.
