Launched: Tata Tiago NRG
Tata had launched the Tiago, back in 2016 but of late, it has been slightly off the radar and you can blame the Nexon for it. The compact-SUV was capable enough to steal Tiago's thunder. Now though, the Tiago is back in the news. No, it's not recalled or anything like that. Tata has launched a crossover version of the Tiago called the Tiago NRG - with NRG being a play on the word 'energy'. Mind you, the NRG isn't the first crossover hatch that we have seen in India; there's the Polo Cross, the i20 Active and the Fiat Urban Cross. So, let's take a closer look at the jacked-up Tiago. On the outside, the Tiago NRG gets new front and rear bumpers, plastic cladding all around, faux skid-plates, dual-tone four-spoke alloy wheels and blacked-out roof and roof rails. But the most significant update is NRG's ground clearance. At 180mm, the NRG sits 10mm higher to the ground than the standard Tiago. The interior too get some cosmetic updates such as dual-tone trims, a cooled glove box and electric ORVMs. The NRG is also equipped with features such as five-inch touchscreen display, Harman sound system with 8 speakers, voice command and offline GPS navigation. All the mechanical bits of the NRG are exactly the same as the standard Tiago. It's available with two engine options - a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.0-litre diesel - and a five-speed manual transmission. While the petrol motor churns out 83bhp and 114Nm of torque, the oil-burner puts out 68bhp and 140Nm of pulling power, however, Tata claims to have tuned them for better drivability. In terms of safety, the NRG gets dual airbags at the front, ABS with EBD, corner stability control, reverse parking assist, follow-me-home lamps and driver seatbelt reminder. The Tiago NRG has an introductory price tag of Rs 5.49 lakh for the petrol model and Rs 6.31 lakh for the diesel model (both prices ex-showroom Delhi). In terms of rivals, the Tata Tiago NRG takes on the Ford Freestyle.
