Rumour has it that the Chevrolet Sonic will be touching down on Malaysian soil by the end of the year. It will fill the gap in the subcompact market left by the Aveo after its sales in the country was discontinued.
The Sonic was launched at the 2010 Paris Motor Show as a replacement to the outgoing Chevrolet Aveo (it still bears the old nameplate in certain markets). Gone are the Daewoo underpinnings as this car uses the Gamma II global subcompact platform which is also the base for models such as the Chevrolet Spark and the recently announced Opel Adam.
The car is already available in Thailand in both hatchback and sedan forms where prices start range between 548,000-687,000 Baht (RM54,500-68,400). All cars come with a 100hp 1.4L Ecotec engine capable of churning 130Nm of torque mated to a choice of either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed DSC (Driver Shift Control) automatic transmission.
