DRB-Hicom has surprised the automotive industry after it announced that Proton Holdings Berhad has entered into a Collaboration Agreement with Honda Motor Co. Ltd.

According to DRB-Hicom, the deal will see Proton and Honda explore collaboration opportunities in areas of technology enhancement, new product lineups as well as the sharing of platforms and facilities.

The agreement is said to signify a potential long term strategic partnership between the two carmakers whereby the DRB-Hicom Group is hoping to grow as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), now that Proton has Honda, a global leader in the industry, as its strategic partner.

Details regarding what we can expect out of the agreement remain scarce at the moment but more will surely follow and it will be interesting to see how another partnership with a Japanese automotive company can change the dynamics of the country’s first ever carmaker.
