Volkswagen Group Malaysia has introduced the Volkswagen Touareg TDI to the Malaysian market – the first ever diesel VW vehicle to be officially sold here.
Powered by a 241hp 3.0L V6 diesel engine which produces 550Nm of torque, the Touareg TDI is capable of doing 0-100km/h in 7.6 seconds all the way to a top speed of 220km/h. However, VW claims that the Touareg TDI can still return a fuel consumption rating of 7.2l/100km with carbon emissions rated at 189g/km.
Present at the launch was renowned Challenge4 adventurer Rainer Zietlow, who recently claimed a world record after driving from Melbourne, Australia all the way to St. Petersburg, Russia, using a VW Touareg TDI. The journey spanned a distance of 23,000km and took just over 17 days to complete.
The Touareg TDI goes on sale with a pricetage of RM488,888, noticeably lower than the recently launched Touareg Hybrid which goes for RM618,888. To freshen your memory, the Hybrid is actually more powerful and faster than the TDI, but consumes an extra litre of fuel for every 100km traversed.
