The Mercedes-Benz SLS has become the latest model to wear the Black Series badge, which is essentially a promise of performance by the German marquee’s in-house tuning division AMG.
For starters, the SLS AMG Black Series’ 6.2-litre powerplant has its output bumped up by a whole 32hp, from 590hp to 622hp. Maximum torque is now rated at 639Nm. The result is a century sprint of 3.5 seconds, 0.3 seconds quicker than the regular SLS, all the way to a top speed of 315km/h.

Apart from the increase in power, the meaner SLS is constructed with more lightweight material, which reduces the kerb weight by a significant 70kg. As with all Black models, it gets a sportier visual treatment as well, wearing carbon fiber side skirts, splitter, rear diffuser and rear wing among others.
