Initially thought to arrive on our shores earlier this year, the Veloster is here at last as Hyundai-Sime Darby takes the covers off one of its most anticipated models in recent times.
The coupe which is known for its third door hidden behind the front passenger door comes into the Malaysian market with just one engine option – the 1.6-litre Gamma D-CVVT engine which churns out 130hp and 158Nm of torque.
The Veloster is available in two base variants with a choice of either a six-speed manual tranny or a six-speed automatic gearbox. Apart from the transmission, the rest of the equipment and features remain the same. These include 17-inch wheels, start-stop function, touchscreen headunit and a six-speaker audio system. Seats are finished in fabric where leather seats are a RM2,000 optional extra.

There is also a premium spec model which is only avaialble with the automatic gearbox. While technical underpinnings remain the same, the premium variant gains 18-inch wheels with body colour inserts, LED projecter headlights, LED tail lights, leather seats, eight-speaker audio system, Bluetooth and handsfree pairing function, panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control and a reverse camera.
The base models are priced at RM116,888 for the manual and RM121,888 for the automatic while the premium model goes for RM132,888. The Veloster is available in six colour choices and comes with a five-year or 300,000km extended warranty.
