If you’ve read our previous story, you’ll know that BMW is renaming the 2-door 3-Series to the 4-Series. And yet, BMW is still building tantalizing iterations of the E92 3-Series coupe, this time in the form of the M3 DTM Champion Edition.
The dressed up M3 draws inspiration from the race car which Bruno Spengler won the DTM drivers’ title in. It wears a Frozen Black metallic coat with carbon fiber flaps, dark chrome accents and wheels finished in matte black. The numerous M badging around the car are complemented by DTM-inspired graphics.
Inside, it comes equipped with an Alcantara steering wheel, carbon fibre trim and Black Novillo leather seats, whereby the front ones are heated. The door sill plates are designed to reflect the look of Spengler’s race helmet.
Underpinnings are traditionally M3. Power comes from a 4-litre V8 which delivers 420hp and 400Nm of torque. This is mated to an M DCT. 0-100km/h is done in 4.5 seconds.
Only 54 units will ever be built and buyers will get a chance to attend a driver training course to get tips directly from Bruno Spengler himself. The cost of all this starts at €99,000 if you live in Germany. That translates to about RM390k although it will likely cost more if it were sold here – not that it would.
