BALL Watch Company, a Swiss watchmaker, has proudly unveiled the new and hotly anticipated watch collection, “BALL for BMW” with the tagline “Engineered for Perfection” at 1Utama Shopping Centre. Sharing the same values of passion for precision mechanical engineering and undeniable spirit of innovation with constant attention to technical and aesthetic excellence, the new collection was unveiled by the Managing Director of BALL Watch South East Asia, Mr. Kelvin Wong and Mr. Sashi Ambi, Head of Corporate Communications of BMW Group Malaysia.
As the pioneer of chronometry standards, Ball Watch Company is globally known for having set the official standard watch of the American railroads. Through the quest for perfection, precision and expertise, it was therefore the perfect match for BALL Watch Company and BMW, itself a legendary German automaker, to form this exclusive collaboration.
The new “BALL for BMW” Collection features timepieces that are highly influenced by the svelte lines of BMW cars that include detail evoking their engines and bodies; the aerodynamic lines of the case are underscored by the slimness of the rim of the case in the middle, which shears off to form elongated and well defined horns. It brings a unique style to present the most pure form, giving a clear blend of recognition, identification, ergonomics, comfort and an ideal sense of proportion to recall the dynamic silhouette of BMW automobiles. In the words of Magali Metrailler, the renowned designer heading up the exclusive project, “designed in accordance with lightness, performance and technology”, which are features shared by both BALL Watch Company and BMW.
“BMW is synonymous with advanced German technology, precision and its contemporary excellence in not only in machinery but in engineering side as well,” said Mr. Kelvin Wong, MD of BALL Watch South East Asia, ”The luxury brand is therefore the main source of inspiration. The stylish, sophisticated timepieces in this new series have been designed based on the highest watchmaking standards, and they reinforce BALL Watch Company’s commitment to design and quality.”
Adding further insight to the new collection, Mr. Kelvin Wong also mentioned that the timepieces are all about functionality, craftsmanship and workmanship. The screwed-in crown, for instance, is notable for its convex and concave façade recalling the details found on BMW’s own ergonomic i-Drive rotary knob, while ensuring a safe and easy grip.
Meanwhile, in order to create the ultimate motorists’ watch, BALL Watch Company has injected the full scope of their expertise and innovation with COSC certification, technical optimization, aesthetic refinement and balanced proportions. Using BMW’s sophisticated suspension system as the inspiration, BALL Watch Company has equipped all of the “BALL for BMW” timepieces with the revolutionary and equally sophisticated Amortiser, a patented anti-shock marvel. This micro-mechanical engineering features a shock-absorbing ring, protecting the mechanical movement from any lateral impact whenever it is on the wrist. This piece of engineering is inspired by “the architecture of bridges, such as the San Francisco bridge, and the work accomplished by the engineers to limit the shock waves caused by the passage of vehicles,” according to Phillippe Antille, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at BALL Watch Company.
The timepieces also provide the perfect dial visibility in darkness, with the use of H3 (Micro gas Lights) in glass micro-tubes. Light is emitted when the H3 molecules strike the capsules’ colored inner surface. This revolutionary Swiss technology can last for more than 20 years without requiring external source of energy. The brightness intensity is up to a 100 times brighter than other light sources commonly used in watch making. It is also a distinctive and exclusive mark of BALL Watch Company.
The new “BALL for BMW” collection includes three models – Classic (for those who like simplicity and elegance), GMT (for travellers) and Power Reserve (for those who care on how much power is left); all of which are officially certified by COSC and powered by automatic ETA calibers. The new collection also comes with a variety of strap options: steel, crocodile or leather, and available through a network of exclusive retailers.
