UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd presented a brand new Toyota Hilux 2.5L worth RM 84,000 to the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) to facilitate the agency’s humanitarian efforts. The donation coincides with the company’s 30th anniversary celebration and is in line with Toyota’s vision of creating a stronger community through motorization. The vehicle handover ceremony was held at Malaysian Relief Agency centre.
The donation to Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) is part of the Philanthropic pillar of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). UMW Toyota Motor’s commitment to CSR has been an integral part of its corporate culture since it was established in 1990. Its CSR approach is consonant with its philosophy of “A history of service to society”, where UMW Toyota Motor continually seeks opportunities to contribute to the communities where they operate their business.
The Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA) is part of the non-governmental humanitarian relief organisation in Malaysia, responding to disasters on both the local and international fronts. With the monsoon season upon us, the MRA sent out an SOS call for rescue vehicles that would play a big part in humanitarian rescue missions. According to Datuk Ismet Suki, President, UMW Toyota Motor, the aim of the Toyota Hilux donation is to support MRA’s humanitarian relief efforts so that people in need can be reached more quickly, aid can be delivered promptly and rescues can be carried out with less danger to the rescuers and the rescued, even through challenging terrains.
“The MRA provides a needful service and their readiness to assist is exemplary. We donated the Toyota Hilux 2.5L as the four-wheel drive, high torque, high cabin and roomy interior as well as safety features are ideal for the tough terrains that rescue service personnel face regularly. We hope that it will facilitate the MRA’s mission,” Datuk Ismet said.
According to Dato’ Dr. Abd. Razak Kechik, Chairman of Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA), UMW Toyota Motor’s donation to the agency with Toyota Hilux 2.5L was very much appreciated. “The monsoon season is here and we are prepared to provide rescue and training to our volunteers for areas where there is flooding, more so in areas with difficult terrains we needed additional four-wheel drive vehicles and the contribution of the Toyota Hilux 2.5L was totally beyond our expectations,” said Dato’ Dr. Abd . Razak Kechik.
Datuk Ismet added that the donation of Toyota Hilux for humanitarian efforts also serves its strong pledge to CSR pillar of philanthropy in improving the quality of life and contributing to society wherever itoperates.
