Posted on: January 8th, 2013

Lotus Cars Malaysia has officially opened the doors to the first ever Lotus Flagship Showroom and Centre in Malaysia.  The new showroom and centre is an integral part of DRB-Hicom’s plans to revive interest in the historic British brand in the country. It encompasses 10,520 square meters of land in a strategic location in Sungai Penchala, just off the LDP.

The opening ceremony was conducted alongside the launch of two new Lotus models – the Exige S and Elise S. Present at the launch of the new facility and Lotus cars were Datuk Sri Haji Mohd Khamil Jamil, Executive Chairman of Proton and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia who is also an advisor for Proton.

Speaking at the launch, Datuk Sri Haji Mohd Khamil Jamil pointed out that DRB-HICOM has affirmed its commitment to the Lotus brand many times ever since taking over Proton and that the launch of the new showroom is proof of that commitment.

He highlighted that this Flagship Showroom stands out from the 140 Lotus Cars showrooms around the world due to its 372 square meter Customer Interactive Block which will be used to coordinate Lotus events such as convoys, races, defensive and advanced driver trainings as well as act as a hub for owners to get together and hang out.  As a customer service facility, the Service Centre is able to accommodate up to 20 cars a day and 480 cars a month.

This event also marked an introduction of Lotus high performance players into the Malaysian market. The new Exige S carries a supercharged 3.5-litre V6 engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. This powertrain puts out 345hp and 400Nm of torque to get the car which weighs just over a tonne (1,176kg to be precise) from 0-100 in just 3.96 seconds. For a car of its proportions, the Exige S clocks a whopping top speed of 274kmph.

The Elise S on the other hand boasts a 2-litre supercharged engine mated to the same transmission which produces 217hp and 250Nm of torque. This translates to a century sprint of 4.6 seconds all the way to a top speed of 234kmph. The Elise is even lighter than the Exige, nicking the one tonne mark at just 924kg.

The Exige S is available in Roadster and Coupe formats, priced from RM452,030 and RM467,230 respectively. The Elise S is priced from RM332,300. Both of these Lotus vehicles are sold with a three-year or 100,000km manufacturer’s warranty, whichever comes first.
