Toyota has confirmed plans to bring a convertible concept version of the GT 86 at next month’s Geneva show.
Known as the FT-86 Open, the convertible version of the GT 86 “previews a possible future development” and its objective is to “gauge the public reaction”. The Japanese automaker says “testing of a prototype version of the car is already underway”. In other words, if feedback will be positive, a production model will be out probably in 2014.
The design sketch reveals a 2+2 seating layout but we can’t tell whether it will feature a regular cloth or a retractable metal top. Most likely, the car will come with a regular cloth top since it is lighter and cheaper to make. If there will be a production model, it will most likely be offered also as a Scion as well. No news about a Subaru version at the moment.
