Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP) has officially launched the 911 Carrera 4S – the all-wheel drive variant of Porsche’s most popular vehicle nameplate.
Apart from its all-wheel drive system, the technical underpinnings of the 4S do not stray far from those of its two-wheeled sibling, the Carrera S. Power comes from a 3.8-litre boxer engine which puts out 400hp, allowing the car to do the century sprint in 4.1 seconds all the way to 299kmph.
In order to maintain the fun factor usually associated with rear-wheel driven sports cars, the Carrera 4S’ all-wheel drive system is not permanent. With Porsche Traction Management (PTM), the amount of torque delivered to the front wheels via a multiplate clutch varies depending on driving conditions to ensure a balance of performance and vehicle stability.
Visually, the 4S can be told apart from the Carrera S by the trained eye via its wider stance due to rear fenders which extend an additional 22 mm outwards. Even the rear wheels are wider, measuring 10 mm more than those on its two-wheel driven counterpart.Another feature unique to the 4S is a light strip which forms a bridge between the two rear light clusters, reminiscent of 911s of old.
The new 911 4S is priced from RM970,000. The base price includes a four-year factory warranty and a four-year complimentary service maintenance package. With the options list ticked out, a complete package will cost well over a million Ringgit so it may be wise to start saving now.
