Naza Kia Malaysia has announced that the Next Generation Sorento will be launched this weekend (16-17 March), making it the second new model from the Korean brand to be introduced in Malaysia this year following the launch of the Kia Rio in January.
Despite looking like a facelift of the current model, the new Sorento gains more than just cosmetic updates. The chassis joint areas have been strengthened to enhance body rigidity which results in better steering ability. Noise insulation is improved, with three-layer noise-lowering materials applied to the engine bay and a new sound insulator fitted to the transmission tunnel.
To further improve passenger comfort, the Sorento has been lowered by 10mm for easier boarding. As a result of the lower floor height, leg room in the second and third rows of the 7-seat SUV is improved.
Like before, the AWD Sorento is powered by a 2.4-litre DOHC Theta II petrol engine that puts out 174hp and 227Nm of torque. Transmission comes in the form of a six-speed auto gearbox with Manumatic mode.
The Sorento is equipped with a push-start button with a smart key, leather upholstery, motor driven power steering, 18-inch wheels, a six-speaker entertainment system paired to 4.3-inch LCD touch screen with Bluetooth, AUX, iPod and USB functionality and a 7-inch TFT supervision cluster among other features.
In terms of safety, the Sorento features a high rigidity body shell, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Assist Control (HAC), ABS and six airbags.
At RM158,888, the new Sorento bears a pricetag which remains unchanged from the previous model. The price quoted is on-the-road inclusive of a five-year warranty with unlimited mileage.
