BMW Group Malaysia welcomed a new addition to its BMW Motorrad lineup recently – the BMW HP4. It continues the legacy of BMW Motorrad’s High Performance model series which started in 2005 with the boxer-engined HP2.
The HP4 carries the same water-cooled four-cylinder engine found in the BMW S1000RR supersports bike. The 999cc engine is capable of putting out 193hp at 13,000rpm and 112Nm at 9,750rpm. This propels the HP4 to 100kmph from a standstill in just 2.9 seconds, all the way to a top speed of 200kmph.
Technical features are aplenty in the HP4′s spec sheet. Amongst them are Dynamic Damping Control, Dynamic Traction Control and Launch Control Activation. The bike is also fitted with Race ABS, whereby the system can be further tuned to the track conditions with presets such as Rain, Sport and Race.
Despite carrying a host of features, the BMW HP4 tips the scale at only 199kg, even with the Race ABS and 90 per cent full tank taken into account. Performance parts such as the new 7-spoke forged alloy wheels and titanium exhaust system make the HP4 2.4kg lighter than the S1000RR. The HP4 is in fact, the lightest four-cylinder supersports bike in the 1,000cc class to date.
The base price for the BMW HP4 is RM144,444. Buyers can also opt for a Competition package, which adds on carbon parts such as the engine spoiler, rider footrest system, folding brake and clutch levers and wheels finished in Racing Blue Metallic with a special sponsor sticker kit. This package bumps the price up to RM158,888.
