Every year, the world’s most technologically driven carmakers join forces with the finest racing drivers on the planet in what is probably the most challenging event of the motorsport calendar for both car and driver – 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Renowned tyre manufacturer Michelin is no stranger to the podium, having won as recently as in 2013 the overall ranking as well as the Pro and Am categories with Porsche. It is targeting its 24th 24 Hours of Le Mans success as it will be active in the LMP2 prototype category with Alpine and in the LM GTE class with Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Corvette and Viper.
The 24 Hours of Le Mans legacy has extended beyond the French town and closer to home, we have the Asian Le Mans Series, of which Michelin is the official tyre supplier ever since its first edition last year. The Asian Le Mans Series features this year four categories: LM P2, GTC and GTC Am as well as the new CN prototypes. Unlike Le Mans, these races are only three hours long. The series winner and runner up in the GTC Class as well as the series winner in the LM P2 class will earn a spot in the next 24 Hours of Le Mans in France.
There will be five rounds of three-hour races in this year’s Asian Le Mans Series which span across the continent as follows:
Round 1: Inje, Korea (20 July 2014)
Round 2: Fuji, Japan (9 August 2014)
Round 3: Shanghai, China (11 October 2014)
Round 4: Zhuhai, China (26 October 2014)
Round 5: Sepang, Malaysia (7 December 2014)
